As we watch the skies a few reminders:
If you have a medical emergency, call 911.
If you need evacuation assistance, call 911.
Before a Storm:
Clean and repair water bars, check dams, and other structures used to divert water.
Clean sediment and gravel out of culverts AND clean debris out of drainage ditches. Clogged culverts are often a major culprit in damage from storms like this. When culverts get backed up, the water ends up overflowing and impacting roads and driveways.
Make sure phones are charged and flashlights available. Prepare your essential supplies (food/water/prescriptions)
Check backup generators.
Remove objects that are loose and could float away. (Chairs/grills/toys/canoes/garbage cans/etc.)

During a Storm:
If you see road wash-out please call the road department at 802-496-8827 and leave a message. They will be on the roads if it gets that bad, but leaving a message is helpful.
Stay home and off the roads if at all possible. If you must travel be very vigilant of running water, slides, and washed-out areas.
Report downed wires to Green Mountain Power and Washington Electric. Do NOT touch or drive over downed wires.
